MAY/JUNE 2009 AAPA JOURNAL ARTICLE CLARIFICATION
May 2009
While I think Paul did an excellent job in authoring this article, I felt that I needed to clarify a couple points. I had a wonderful college experience in clay under Donna Nicholas and Steve Kemenyffy. Yes, they challanged me but the mention of sculptural work was in reference to what was going on around me not necessarily what I was asked to seek in my own work. It certainly was not as combative as it sounds in the article. Steve was the one who took me to the Teco show at the Erie Art Museum in the late 80's and Donna is responsible for my love of glaze chemistry.
As for influences in my work, Jens Jensen is a major influence of my new painted landscape pots. The majority of my work is heavily influenced by Rookwood artists William Hentschel, Charles Todd, and Rueben Earl Menzel.
